Growth review targets rural economy
The rural economy will among the issues at the heart of the next stage of the government's growth review, say ministers.

Business secretary launched the second stage of the review during a visit to Derby on Thursday (9 June).

Skills, the rural economy and medium-sized businesses would all be at the centre of issues to be considered, he said.

The review would scrutinise the constraints, opportunities and risks impacting on economic growth in rural areas, said Mr Cable.

It would also consider specific issues including labour market characteristics to support the Government's commitment to rebalancing the economy.

Dr Cable said: "We are launching the second stage of the plan for growth with one central purpose - creating the right conditions for business to start up, invest, grow and create jobs."

In terms of infrastructure, the review will considering how to eliminate barriers and encourage greater investment in the UK.

The review will look at ways of increasing business growth by examining firms that have outgrown the definition of small and medium-sized enterprises.

Chancellor George Osborne said the government was continuing its mission to make the UK a "great place" to do business.

"A private sector-led recovery is already underway, with more than 400,000 new jobs created this year," he said.

"This next phase is an opportunity for government to work with business to promote more growth and create more jobs."

The Plan for Growth set out more than 100 actions across 15 sectors and themes when it was published three months ago.

In the coming weeks, the government will also use the plan to establish a package of measures to support town centres.
