Opportunities for business in Sussex

Written by  Ruralcity Media
Two organisations have joined forces to help rural businesses seize new business opportunities and attract new customers in Sussex.

The Integrated Rural Business Support scheme run by Sussex Enterprise and the East Sussex Economic Partnership helped 120 businesses to expand or diversify during 2006 and aims to continue this success in 2007.

Rural business advisor John Evans said: “This scheme has been designed to help rural managers take a fresh look at their businesses and find new ways of working that could ultimately help them to become more successful.”

The scheme aims to help find businesses grow by finding new markets for existing products, either via internet trading or by developing a new niche. It also advises on ways of diversifying into new enterprises.

Although the practice of converting disused rural buildings into holiday lettings or workshops is well understood, for example, many owners are unsure how to market converted buildings, manage the tenants or police the properties.

Owned by and accountable to the business community, Sussex Enterprise is part of the British Chambers of Commerce movement which exists to help businesses prosper and develop by providing expert help.
