Meet BT: Supporting the National Rural Conference 2026

27 Aug 2026

Don't Put Off The Switch

The UK’s analogue landline network will be switched over to digital in January 2027.

BT has worked closely with charities and representative groups, including the Rural Services Network, who have been advising on the needs of customers most affected by the switch, and as a result, BT is taking steps to give customers the best possible experience.

Millions of customers across the UK have made the move to more reliable, secure digital landlines.

With less than 6 months before the aged old analogue telephone network retires, it’s critical you engage with your provider. If you’ve received a letter, email or call from us about your upcoming move, it’s important you engage with us to avoid the risk of service disruption.

If you have a different provider, please contact them to discuss switching to a digital landline.

Learn More About Digital Voice Here

Following the lead of countries like France, Germany, Australia and Japan, the UK’s landlines are going digital. By January 2027, this industry-wide shift will enable calls to be made over a broadband line instead of the decades-old analogue network.

This once-in-a-generation upgrade will replace technology that is increasingly unreliable and outdated. The move from analogue to digital landlines offers many benefits, including enhanced scam call protection, improved reliability and clearer calls, ensuring a better service for customers.

BT is working with government, Ofcom, telecoms providers, key industry groups and organisations like Rural Services Network to ensure that everyone knows about the change, how they’ll be impacted and what they need to do as a result.
