A petition has been launched urging the Government to continue funding for community-led Neighbourhood Plans, which enable towns, parishes and local groups to shape development in their areas.
The petition, created by Dr James Derounian, follows confirmation that government support and technical advice for Neighbourhood Plans — previously delivered through Locality — will not be renewed beyond 2025.
Research has shown that such plans can help deliver additional housing, including affordable homes, while strengthening local engagement and democratic decision-making. Over 2,400 communities have embarked on Neighbourhood Plans to date, with more than 1,000 now carrying legal weight in local planning.
