RSP Member - Community Futures

About Us:

Our charity is registered as Community Council of Lancashire but uses Community Futures as a working title. It was founded in 1934 in Manchester to relieve families in poverty during the depression years. The activity of the charity has changed over time, but the focus has always been on the provision of services to support, develop and sustain community life.

Our aim is to Inspire, empower and support people to find their own solutions and take collective action to sustain community life.

We do this through;

• Community engagement. Using tried and tested community engagement models, we help people in communities to listen, communicate and work with each other to share ideas, recruit help and establish partnership approaches to making change.
• Action planning. Helping people to capture all the things that require change to strengthen the sustainability of their communities.
• Resource building. Helping to recognise the resources in people and assets in communities and looking for opportunities to build on them through information, advice, guidance, training and help with grant funding.
• Provision of needs led family support services including pre-school day and out of school care and holiday clubs. Additional services are available to our most vulnerable families living in communities of high deprivation to help them access more help for their children and guidance to maximise welfare entitlements and grant funded resources. This includes regular delivery of care services as part of the Holiday Activity and Food programme (HAF).
• Advocacy. Our unique position as the Rural Community Council for Lancashire provides people with opportunities to influence and shape policy at a local, regional and national level.
