Have Your Say On Devolution And Rural Britain

27 Oct 2026

How can rural communities have a stronger voice in the decisions that affect them? A new call for evidence is inviting views on how devolution can better serve rural Britain.

The Labour Rural Research Group (LRRG) is seeking contributions to its next report, which will examine how devolution is working for rural communities, the barriers to meaningful involvement in decision-making, and the policy changes needed during the current parliament.

The report aims to identify practical ways to ensure rural areas are properly represented in devolved decision-making and can use new powers to support long-term growth, resilience and opportunity.

It builds on the group’s previous research into rural Britain, rural poverty and the rural economy.

For rural councils, businesses, community organisations and others with relevant experience, the call offers an opportunity to highlight what is working, where barriers remain and what needs to change.

Practical examples from rural areas could help illustrate how devolved structures and decisions affect communities on the ground.

Contributions must be submitted by 5pm on
Wednesday 11 November 2026.

Anyone interested in responding should first read the terms of reference on the LRRG website.

Submissions should be emailed to info@labourruralresearchgroup.com.

Please consider contributing and sharing the call with others who could bring relevant rural experience and evidence.
