A promise from the Government to level up northern areas

The Northern Echo reports that Government announcements for levelling up for northern areas will not be as sustainable or effective if they overlook rural communities

The report says announcements such as a freeport in Teesside and a new Treasury Northern economic campus in Darlington, must include a greener, more environmental outlook, as well as better connectivity for northern rural areas.

The NFU states that levelling up should not only mean more support, but an increased focus on the environment.

Furthermore, as poor connectivity has put rural areas at a disadvantage, the promise to boost rural internet connectivity would help get the countryside up to speed with major towns and cities, benefiting both farming and wider rural businesses.
