Better Transport Week 2024: Charting a Sustainable Future for Rural Communities

Better Transport Week, an annual event dedicated to celebrating and advancing sustainable transport, commenced this week. This focal week highlights the transformative impact of sustainable transport solutions on environmental sustainability, public health, and economic prosperity. By shrinking traffic jams, cleaning our air, and connecting communities, sustainable transport not only addresses climate change but also enhances the quality of life across both urban and rural landscapes.

The 2024 edition of Better Transport Week promises an array of activities including competitions, live discussions, and educational sessions aimed at fostering collaborative efforts among transport industry stakeholders, government bodies, businesses, and non-profit organisations. Among the notable events is the FREE Better Transport Conference on Friday 21 June, featuring a diverse lineup of sessions and panel discussions. Kerry Booth, Chief Executive of the Rural Services Network, will participate in a panel discussion focusing on the challenges and strategies pertinent to rural transport.

The Rural Services Network (RSN) continues to advocate vigorously for enhanced rural transport services as part of its broader 'Winning the Rural Vote' campaign. Our campaign emphasises the critical need for fair funding and robust transport infrastructure to ensure rural communities are not left behind. Recent initiatives highlighted in the rural transport chapter of the RSN campaign underscore the importance of integrated transport networks that cater to the unique needs of rural populations, providing essential access to employment, healthcare, and education.

As Better Transport Week 2024 unfolds, the RSN's participation stresses a shared commitment to a future where sustainable transport solutions drive economic growth and social well-being, particularly in underserved rural areas. The conference will serve as a crucial platform for discussing innovative, inclusive transport solutions across the country.  More details about the conference and how to book your place can be found here.
