Bringing connectivity to Britain’s most rural communities

Independent internet provider Airband has brought access to ultrafast broadband to over 220,000 premises since its conception through wireless and fibre broadband solutions.

Airband aims to offer high speed fixed fibre internet and a ‘no price hike’ guarantee during offered contracts and has seen its customer base grow sixfold since 2019.

Beyond its commitment to increasing rural broadband speeds, it’s also helping to support these communities.

Before the turn of the year, Airband stepped in to support the launch of the Shropshire Community Foundation.

The grant-giving organisation had been operating as part of the Staffordshire Community Foundation for the last three years – but now has been incorporated as a stand-alone charity. And, thanks to a partnership with Airband, has been able to hire a Business Development Officer to ensure its continued success.

The approach to Airband – which offers ultrafast broadband to rural communities and industrial parks across a number of regions – was made by Selina Graham, the charity’s Chair and High Sheriff of Shropshire.

She said: “I’m absolutely delighted to see the partnership being formed. There are so many synergies between the aspirations of the two organisations, both having community at their heart – particularly around connecting those in harder to reach areas – and I look forward to continuing the partnership in the long-term.”

Looking ahead into the year, Airband is to continue its mission of bringing faster connectivity to rural areas by installing superfast broadband to one of Britain’s most beautiful villages, Clovelly in Devon. The installation will be carried out throughout February and March and will bring modern day connectivity to a fishing village once owned by William The Conqueror that is filled with history and stunning views.

Red Peel, Airband Founder and MD, said; “The opportunity to bring high speed connectivity to such a unique and interesting place like Clovelly is brilliant in showing how Airband can apply their expertise to some of the country's most rural areas.

“We hope that securing this tender is a step in the right direction for the business to furtherly help bring connectivity to rural communities.”
