Celebrating Student Volunteering Week With Citizens Advice!

People often think of volunteers as being retired professionals but did you know that Citizens Advice TNMWD have a number of student volunteers? 10 – 16 February is Student Volunteering Week when the charity celebrates the work of its student volunteers.

Student volunteers gain immensely from the training provided. Interacting with clients, staff, and fellow volunteers builds their confidence, equipping them for future careers in their chosen fields. Having volunteer experience at Citizens Advice is not only impressive on a CV but also highly regarded by employers. It demonstrates a commitment to personal growth and community service.

Students are often surprised by the complexity of issues such as debt, energy, and housing that come through the charity’s doors. Witnessing firsthand how advice and support are provided offers valuable insights into the challenges many face, especially as they begin to lead more independent lives.

Volunteering also offers a glimpse into potential career paths within the charity, not limited to advisory roles but extending to marketing, IT, finance, and general administration. Their specialist services address a broad range of issues, and their advocacy efforts aim to create a fairer society by tackling inequalities and injustice.

Citizen Advice’s paid staff and volunteers have diverse backgrounds and experience. Whilst helping peopel to navigate serious problems in their lives, being able to help them is very satisfying, making for a friendly and relaxed working atmosphere.
