Children doing two and a half hours’ schoolwork a day on average

University College London reports that children locked down at home in the UK are spending an average of two and a half hours each day doing schoolwork

Furthermore, the variability in the amount of schoolwork being done at home is adding to existing regional and socioeconomic inequalities.

The study shows one fifth of pupils, which is the equivalent of two million children in the UK, did no schoolwork at home, or less than an hour a day. While 17 per cent were studying for more than four hours a day.

The report concludes by reinforcing calls for Government to give education a much greater priority in the management of the pandemic response, and for this response to include a focus on regional disparities.
