Concern that Cornwall is being 'levelled down' by the Government

Cornwall Live reports Councillor Tim Dwelly, a member of the Shadow Cabinet at Cornwall Council, has claimed that the Government has misled Cornwall as it is "not levelling up Cornwall, it is levelling down"

The comments follow the launch of a report by the Rural Services Network that shows the Government’s Levelling Up Fund is leaving rural communities unfairly disadvantaged in comparison to ‘red wall’ areas.

Mr Dwelly commented:

“We are still waiting for the Prime Minister’s pledge to match the EU’s annual funding of Cornwall to materialise...right now in August 2021, five months after he pledged Cornwall would have the equivalent £100m a year from the new Shared Prosperity Fund, we still don’t know what Cornwall will get.

It is likely to be well under £10m this year. This is not levelling up Cornwall, it is levelling down.”
