Countryfile host concerned for loss of rural services

The Mirror reports on comments made by Countryfile host John Craven lamenting the loss of rural services and saying the problem has left residents ‘socially isolated’.

Speaking to BBC Countryfile Magazine, Craven expresses concern about the disappearance of rural shops, schools, post offices, pubs and bus routes. He said: ‘In particular this has hit the rising number of pensioners who live long distances from surgeries and hospitals and maybe don’t have anyone to keep an eye on them.’ He also added that there are not enough affordable rural homes to ‘stop young country folk migrating to towns’.
