The Rural Services Network is proud to highlight a remarkable initiative undertaken by one of our members, the Herefordshire Youth Employment Hub. This hub, a new cornerstone for youth engagement and support in Herefordshire, has been making significant strides in aiding young individuals in their transition from education to the professional world.
Launched in October, the Herefordshire Youth Employment Hub offers an expansive suite of services aimed at fostering self-reliance and growth among youths aged 16-24. From education and training guidance to work experience and volunteering opportunities, the hub ensures that young individuals receive a holistic support system.
The initiative is especially critical in rural areas like Herefordshire where young people often encounter unique challenges such as limited access to job opportunities and professional mentoring. By providing tailored support, the hub helps bridge the gap between school and the workforce, ensuring no youth is left behind.
Amy Tommey, the coordinator of the Youth Employment Hub, shared her insights on the project's early success with the BBC. "We aim to provide a safety net for those who might fall through the cracks post their educational phase. It's gratifying to see the positive impact we've already made, having received numerous referrals since our inception."
Two of the beneficiaries, Ethan Edwards and Mhia Evans, have already seen significant transformations in their lives thanks to the hub’s support. Ethan, who aspired to be a sports coach since college, overcame employment hurdles with the hub's assistance and is set to start an apprenticeship with Activate, a local sports coaching company. His journey highlights the critical role the hub plays in turning aspirations into reality.
Mhia Evans, on the other hand, has found the hub instrumental in expanding her career horizons and boosting her confidence. "The support I received here has been invaluable. They've helped me refine my CV and set clear, attainable career goals," Mhia told the BBC.
The hub also collaborates with various local and national partners, including SENDIASS and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), which provides on-site coaching. This network of support underscores the hub's commitment to a comprehensive approach to youth development, ensuring resources are available at every step of the way.
Additionally, the mobility of the careers coaches across rural Herefordshire is a testament to the hub's outreach, ensuring that support is not confined to urban centres but is extended to the most remote areas.
With over 90 young individuals already benefiting from the hub's services, and with many more expected to join, the Herefordshire Youth Employment Hub stands as a vital resource in the rural community. It not only supports individual growth and confidence but also contributes to the broader economic development of the region.
The Rural Services Network applauds this initiative and looks forward to continuing our support for such transformative programmes that are crucial for nurturing the potential of young people in rural England.
