The figures show that only 51 per cent of the poorest pupils in the country attain the expected levels in national primary tests in comparison with 70 per cent of their richer classmates.
However there is some good news too, as 64 per cent of 11 year olds who took SATs this year met Government targets in reading, writing and maths, up from 61 per cent last year.
The East of England (four per cent) and the East Midlands (3.7 per cent) had the highest percentage of under-performing schools, whilst London (0.5 per cent) had the least.
