Impact of COVID-19 on the countryside

BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme has reported this week about the impact of COVID-19 on the countryside, where despite the fact that cases may be lower, ‘isolation and job insecurity can be even more challenging when you live in a remote area’

The programme outlined how with no shop or public transport, villagers have started delivering food and medicine to vulnerable neighbours themselves.

As a consequence, some rural communities are galvanising to provide online lessons for children and hardship funds.

Elsewhere, the Shropshire Star has reported that as the country opens more vaccination centres it is important to ensure people can get to their appointments.

Shropshire Council has started a free shuttle service in partnership with Arriva to help tackle this problem and assist rural residents in getting their vaccines.
