Conservative peer Anne McIntosh explores in the Yorkshire Post the ways in which the Government’s levelling-up agenda and ‘build back better’ possibilities will work in a rural landscape

She maintains that the rural bus network has taken a particular hit due to the collapse in passengers during the pandemic, with more people working from home.

Ms McIntosh also complains that broadband and mobile phones are ‘woeful’ in rural areas, and outlines the difficulties in promoting electric vehicles in rural areas due to the lack of charging points.

She concludes by arguing that Government needs to match funding to ensure the success of programmes such as BioYorkshire which are working to promote jobs and economic activity in rural areas.
