North Yorkshire to receive £17 million boost to rural economy

ITV reports that over the next three years almost £17million pounds will be spent in North Yorkshire on improving broadband coverage and transport links in rural areas

The funding has come from the shared prosperity fund, which was put in place after Brexit to ensure regions of the UK were given grants to match previous EU funding.

The council must submit their in-depth proposals of how they intend to spend the money by the end of July.

Multiple challenges need to be dealt with in the region including digital connectivity, poor rural transport and the increasing cost of living.

Later this year the community and local groups will be asked to put forward projects to receive a share of the fund.
