Openreach to expand fibre to rural villages and market towns

Several trade press outlets, including E&T Magazine, TechRadar and IT Pro have reported on news that Openreach are expanding full-fibre rollout to cover 250,000 rural premises in more than 200 rural locations by March next year

The infrastructure firm has a lot of work to complete in the next few years if Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s commitment of universal full-fibre broadband by 2025 is to be met. Government statistics reported that roughly 17% of the UK’s population live in rural areas.

By targeting more isolated, less commercially viable communities, Openreach could upgrade hundreds of thousands of home and business networks, all of which hitherto - due to complications in geography; and in effect, expensive costs - have entirely lacked full-fibre connectivity.
