Parties pledge business rates reform

Speaking at the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) annual conference, Boris Johnson promised a ‘fundamental review’ of business rates if the Conservative Party wins the general election, according to The MJ

The Party added that the overall burden of business rates would be reduced as part of the review. The review would be announced in the first Budget and would include a ‘wide’ consultation.

Elsewhere at the CBI event, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said his party would reform business rates if elected.

Liberal Democrat leader Jo Swinson said she would scrap business rates, replacing the system with a levy on landowners.
