Peter Aldous MP: Young people in deprived areas being held back

Following the news last week that workers in coastal communities are paid less than their in-land counterparts, Conservative MP Peter Aldous has written a piece for PoliticsHome.com calling for counties to be given further control over education and funding.

He notes that in remote rural areas, disadvantaged young people are half as likely to gain two or more A-levels compared to those in major cities. Aldous argues that the Government’s upcoming Fair Funding Review provides the means to address the unfair nature of council funding. It was due to be published in April but has been delayed because of the current political situation. Aldous pledges to work to ensure that the Review is implemented in 2021 to ‘rebalance’ the rural – urban divide.
