Project launched to look at running broadband through water pipes

The Government has launched a pilot project exploring the efficacy of fibre optic broadband cables through water pipes to help connect hard-to-reach homes, including those in rural areas

The £4m fund aims to avoid the cost of building the Infrastructure for broadband connectivity.

Matt Warman, Minister for Digital Infrastructure minister, commented: ‘The cost of digging up roads and land is the biggest obstacle telecoms companies face when connecting hard-to-reach areas to better broadband, but beneath our feet there is a vast network of pipes reaching virtually every building in the country.’
