Pub is The Hub has been working in collaboration and partnership with a range of organisations to support rural pubs, publicans and their communities with different activities.
A new gardening guide, in partnership with the charity Horticap, which has popular gardener Alan Titchmarsh as patron, has been produced to help pubs in developing their outside areas and bring local people together.
Pub is The Hub has also supported various community pub awards in Norfolk for more than 15 years as part of its partnership working with local councils. This year Pub is The Hub supported the search for the Broadland Pub of the Year 2024 and South Norfolk Pub of the Year 2024.
Other collaborations from Pub is The Hub include support to the arts project INN CROWD, which helps bring quality live literature and theatre-style performances to thousands of people living in rural areas in England.
Pub is The Hub has recently encouraged publicans to ‘Make Space For Music’ by working with membership organisation Making Music. This encourages publicans to host music groups that are increasingly struggling to find performing spaces.
Other successful activities supported include those at the Blue Bell in Stoke Ferry, Norfolk, which hosts a ‘Repair Café’, which is held twice yearly in the pub’s garden and annexe room.
“We continue to try to support and inspire the diversification of pubs by individual publicans to provide a range of essential activities and have recently been successfully collaborating with these like-minded organisations in these efforts,” said John Longden, chief executive of Pub is The Hub.
“Despite the many uncertainties and considerable challenges encountered by small pub businesses, there continues to be keen interest from publicans to support their local residents and overcome isolation and loneliness if only helpful funding were available.”
