Remote and Rural Medicine Conference Announced

Changing Outcomes, Changing Practice Remote and Rural Medicine Conference, 7/8 June 2023, Penrith

An exciting line up of speakers has been announced for this year’s remote and rural medicine conference including:

  • Simon Yates, mountaineer depicted in the film ‘Touching the Void’ and veteran of over 75 expeditions to high and remote mountains around the globe.
    “Making Calls - taking decisions during medical/crisis events in remote and mountain locations.”
  • Dr Pete Hodkinson, first UK specialty registrar and now Consultant in Aviation and Space Medicine and member of the European Space Agency Medical Board.
    “Space Medicine” - What are the specialty, medical considerations to get in to space and what if things goes wrong when you’re there?
  • Dr Chris Press, first on the scene at the Manchester Arena bombings.
    How can we learn from such tragic events?
  • Dr Lucy Coulter, Medical Expedition Doctor, Endurance22.
    “Endurance22 - the medical support for a once in a lifetime discovery.”

  • Major General Tim Hodgetts, Surgeon General, Head of the Army Medical Services.
    “Citizen aid and the use of bystanders to deliver lifesaving interventions.”

They join over 20 other inspirational practitioners in the field of urgent, rural and digital medicine at the conference on 7/8 June 2023, in Penrith.

Also on offer at the event, CPD workshops offering key skills for the rural practitioner in emergency and urgent dental care, eyecare trauma and skin lesions.

The conference is hosted by the University of Central Lancashire’s National Centre for Remote and Rural Medicine, in collaboration with the Royal College of General Practitioners Rural Forum.
