Rural area faces 'major winter problem'

NHS regional bosses have identified the East of England as a ‘trouble spot’ during this winter, according to the Health Service Journal.

Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Trust in particular was singled out for ambulance handover delays, capacity shortage and staff unrest, compounded by its rural location.

A statement by the East of England Service Trust said that Norfolk and Norwich ‘is one of the busiest hospitals in the region, servicing a large, remote area.

We are working closely with the hospital with plans to ensure quicker handover times.’ Essex, also covered by the East of England Ambulance Service Trust, was noted to have struggled with handover delays last winter but is said to have improved over the course of the last year.
