Rural communities ready for music day

Rural communities are being encouraged to participate in Making Music Day, which takes place on Thursday, 21 June.

Make Music Day is an annual set of free music events taking place in venues and public spaces around the UK – from town squares to libraries, bandstands to school halls and arts centres.

The charity NYMAZ is working with Make Music Day to take music to the countryside – by encouraging music groups and individuals to perform in the hills, mountains and beaches.

It is challenging participants to find the remotest spot they can and live-stream their event through Facebook – so long as they can get a 4G connection.

Make Music Day UK is also attempting to connect each performance through a unified piece and the song chosen is the Morecambe and Wise classic Bring Me Sunshine.

This year, we want your weird and wonderful versions of the summer classic in all sorts of surprising places – as remote as you can get!

We have prepared guidance to help participants to live stream their performances –http://bit.ly/ruraltoolkit

Organisers say they would love to hear from anyone thinking of getting involved. For further details, visit www.makemusicday.co.uk or email grace@nymaz.org.uk.
