Uber style' bus service to increase hours to help rural communities in Cambridgeshire

Cambridge News reports that the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has announced that an ‘Uber style’ bus service will be extending its hours to cater for rural communities, starting from November 28

‘Ting’, the ‘Uber’ of the bus industry in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will now be run by Vectare after a successful bid was made by the company and it is hoped the new service will improve transport links to rural communities.

The service will run for an extra 14 hours a week, between the hours of 6am – 8pm Monday – Saturday and Vectare has promised customers that if their bus doesn’t turn up or is full, and the next bus is more than 30 minutes away, it will reimburse them for a taxi.

Bus users will now need to install a new app, but will be able to track buses in real-time.

Mayor of the Combined Authority, Dr Nik Johnson, said that he was “delighted” that the new bus service would attract young travellers and deliver a “real shift” in how people travel, in a time when bus services were under “immense pressure”.

The company have also said they’ll be introducing brand new buses, longer operating hours and value fares and tickets.
