With the closing date for registrations looming (30 August 2019) book now to attend our National Rural Conference, (in association with the CCRI), in Cheltenham on 3rd & 4th September) here. The keynote speaker for the conference is the Rt Hon Lord Foster of Bath, Chair of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Rural Economy.
The Committee questioned Local Government Minister Rishi Sunak on extra costs that councils are facing such as Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC).
He replied: ‘Coming up to the Spending Review, we are looking at the process of reviewing burdens across local government… Where we focus our attention is the ones we hear from the LGA [Local Government Association] and local authorities they feel is the most financially burdensome or there’s the biggest disconnect between what they are being compensated and what the cost is’.
