The Northern Echo reported on comments by Local Government Minister Rishi Sunak MP on how funding is being calculated for local councils as part of the ‘Fairer Funding Review’.
Sunak told North Yorkshire County Council meeting that the review has highlighted the higher cost of providing services in rural areas than in cities, however research has shown that on, average, rural county councils receive £261 a year per person less than in urban areas.
Sunak said he was ‘confident’ that the reviewed funding formula, which will come into effect in 2021, will ‘be a huge improvement’.
