Rural Related Politics - An RSN weekly review

15 April 2019

Below is an RSN review of last week's rural related politics as well as a look forward to the week ahead:

Last week in politics
(8 April - 12 April)

On Wednesday 10, Daniel Kawczynski MP asked the Prime Minister about the regional differences in school funding. She reiterated that she believes that the new formula is distributing funds more fairly, giving the biggest increases to underfunded schools, and that extra funding will be allocated to small, remote schools.

On Thursday 11, Chris Davies MP asked what steps the Government is taking to help elderly people in rural areas learn digital skills. Digital Minister Margot James MP highlighted the digital inclusion innovation fund. Kevin Hollinrake MP highlighted a recent letter, signed by 80 MPs, asking the Culture Secretary Jeremy Wright about roaming across networks in rural areas. Wright replied by saying that all mobile network operators have an obligation to improve rural coverage and said that if they do not improve he is ‘perfectly prepared to entertain rural roaming as a way in which it might be done’.

This week in politics (15 April -  19 April)

Parliament in is recess until Tuesday 23 April.
