The Plunkett Foundation write to Local Authority Leaders

The Plunkett Foundation (alonside other organisations) has written to Local Authority Leaders to highlight the importance of local social enterprises, co-operatives and community businesses to their local area

Local Authorities have been allocated an additional £617m in business grants to distribute to support their local economy from Government and they have some flexibility in how they distribute the funding. 

The guidance from central government says that Local Authorities can prioritise different types of business which are relevant to their local economy and award grants to businesses not identified by central government which they deem in need of support.
