Tory leadership candidates share views on rural issues

Farming UK reports that the Countryside Alliance questioned Conservative leadership candidates Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt on the future of rural policy

Hunt promised to ‘fast track’ the delivery of rural broadband and said that rural post offices would be ‘one of the beneficiaries of my pledge to take 90 per cent of high street business rates altogether’. He added that if elected, his Government would ‘place rural society at its heart’.

Johnson pledged more funds to address ‘imbalances that affect rural communities’ and increasing per pupil school funding to help rural schools as well as committing to supporting rural post offices. He continued to say that rural communities will be ‘central to kick starting the British economy’ after Brexit.
